Traveling soon? Don’t forget your iPhone

The iPhone is one of the most dynamic and internet-enable mobiles on the market; its multiple applications are categorized by sectors and one of the most interesting is the "TRAVEL”

Ever since the launch of the iPod in 2001, Steve Jobs and his team at Apple have transformed the world of computers electronics through Mac and others creative Apple products. But besides being a highly competitive computer company, they proceeded to the creation of a mobile device that is simple to use and yet with an endless number of helpful applications. It took 6 years to get Apple's star product, the highly awaited iPhone came to the US consumers in the summer of 2007 and to Europe in 2008. The iPhone is one of the most dynamic and internet-enable mobiles on the market giving high sales results and thousands of satisfied users.

The iPhone contains an operating system similar to the Mac OS X and has WI-FI, 3G. This means that it has great opportunities to be a very useful tool. It allows external developers to create thousands of applications for the iPhone that can be downloaded; either for free or paid via App Store / iTunes.

These applications are categorized by sectors and one of the most interesting is the "TRAVEL” sector. If choosing the most appropriate one, the iPhone could become our best guide to travel and help us have a perfect holiday.

There is a vast selection of applications. Some examples are: geolocation, travel guides, tourist destinations, hotels bookings, translators, maps, routes, metro, railways, etc.

The typical example can be a hotel reservation. In that case Hotels.com has an application that shows a current listing with prices and feedback from other users, and of course you can book your favorite hotel through the application.

There is an application that helps you from wasting your time at the airport, because we all know that the flights and gates can change at any time. This application generates real-time information of your next flight (e.g. departures, arrivals, delays, gates, etc.) and works with over 1.143 airlines in 4246 airports. With Flight Tracker or Flight Status Apps you can get to know the exact time and all changes related to your flight.

Remember when you had to read books and tourist guides to find interesting places to see at your destination? Now you do not have to carry these books in your suitcase, in addition to them being heavy and outdated. With your iPhone and thanks to Air Sharing and Hear Planet applications, you can download all the latest information and within seconds you will be seeing photos, documents PDF's and recommendations / reviews of other tourists who have visited the place.
Hear Planet will recommend places to visit in your stay and if you don’t want to read the information, this application lets your iPhone play an audio file. That way you can be watching the famous statue of liberty and listening to the explanation or history.

Once in your vacation, you may find yourself lost in this unfamiliar city. In this case you could have 3 options: 1.Carrying a giant and outdated map with you, 2. Have access to a GPS through your iPhone or 3. Having the ILM application that will give you access to Offline Google Maps and quickly help you to reach any point of the city.

Another useful application for your travels is the Talking iPhone Translator, in case you forgot those Spanish courses. Don’t worry the Talking iPhone Translator will be your best pal. This application will translate several languages and will talk that phrase that you can’t recall.

Also you can update your blog or be in touch with friends through "Around Me", "Twitter", "Facebook", "Skype" etc. These social networks are already known and now the iPhone puts them in the palm of your hand in a practical version.

In the short time that the iPhone is on the market, has come to develop thousands of applications that no doubt is transforming our concept of "travel." All these applications besides providing solutions let you know reviews, recommendations, real-time data and to be able to translate phrases audibly in case you have forgotten your Mandarin. The main goal is to make your next trip much easier and more practical.
