Alright, let’s face it, summer vacations are over! But the good news is that Christmas holidays are closer! If you are tired of spending your Christmas vacation at home, let me tell you that there is a great place upper north that will let you discover new landscapes, extreme adventures below 30 degrees and even visit Santa Claus real home, yes you heard it right! This place is located in Lapland, Finland.
Lapland belongs to the continental climate zone characterized by snowy winters and the Gulf Stream that allows for relatively warm summers. Precipitation in Lapland is approximately 500 mm a year. The Lappish countryside is unique and easily damaged. The huge climatic fluctuations and relatively low nutrient content of the soil in many areas place real challenges on the vegetation and therefore also on the wildlife. Here is told more about the wildlife and wilderness of Rovaniemi but also the Northern lights which is one of the most famous and interesting phenomena in Lapland.
Rovaniemi is the capital of Lapland in Finland, located at the northern Arctic Circle; lying at the junction of north and south on the border to the Arctic. Rovaniemi has become a modern town, full of life with its own unique characteristics.
There are different seasons this far north, each having its own type of daylight, temperature and natural phenomena. Each season offers an opportunity to experience the town in a totally different light. During the frosty twilight you can ride a snowmobile through snowy forests or over a frozen river. Although Christmas time comes only once a year, in Lapland you can experience Christmas throughout the year. Rovaniemi in Finnish Lapland is the hometown of Santa Claus who can be met on any day of the year in the Arctic Circle.
What to do in Lapland?

Totally a great combination of nature and speedy snowmobiling, with this experience you can get unforgettable memories of the beautiful and exotic Lappish nature. Also these safaris can be with a reindeer or husky where you experience the wintery silence.
Wild speed, relaxed skiing or energetic snowshoeing
Rovaniemi offers excellent possibilities for skiing and other winter activities. In matter of minutes you can be skiing or snowboarding. If you have already experience of cross-country skiing, you can join for example a short skiing trek. Or test your competing shape in the big annual skiing competitions, for example traditional Napapiirin hiihto where are categories and lengths for all age and condition.
Watch the Northern Lights Phenomenon
The Northern Lights is a phenomenon that is seen in the skies on clear dark nights in the northern and southern Polar Regions. They are typically created about 100 km above the surface of the earth when accelerated particles in the earth’s magnetic field collide with molecules of air, which in turn release some of their resulting energy as visible light. The phenomenon is similar to how the picture is made on a television screen or to the glow from a fluorescent lamp.
Exotic Ice fishing trips
Ice fishing on the ice of a lake or river is a relaxing experience and with a little bit of good luck it might be also rewarding....
So there you have it! A great and exotic place to visit this winter; so, are you going to visit Santa´s Village or get some speed action with the snowmobile adventures in the frozen lakes?
