Bored of the same restaurant?

Many of us are used to dine out at the same restaurants over and over again, either for tradition or convenience, others may choose to be pioneers and seek for new places, but one thing is for sure: they end up dining out in a very similar concept if not identical.

Many of us are used to dine out at the same restaurants over and over again, either for tradition or convenience, others may choose to be pioneers and seek for new places, but one thing is for sure: they end up dining out in a very similar concept if not identical. Of course there is nothing wrong about this, but something that is absolutely true is that after having visited many Japanese, Chinese, Italian, and Mexican restaurants, it is quite difficult to find anything new or exciting in them. If you are bored and tired of the same restaurants and you want to go beyond the traditional dinner, then you need to experience the “unusual restaurants”. There are restaurants around the world that offer an exquisite dining experience and at the same time they give a new twist to the ordinary story of dining out.

Here are some of the most unusual and unique places for dining out:

* Dining in the dark: It may sound crazy, but when one of our senses has been partially removed, the other senses become stronger. In theory, the sense of taste is capable of appreciating new flavors experiences. The interiors of these restaurants are in black and gray tones and to make this experience even more peculiar the waiters are blind. The food is excellent and the prices are quite expensive. One example of this concept is “Opaque Restaurants”.

* Underground Dining: This trend is having great acceptance around the world, mainly in the urban cities, the main point is to have a unique experience in a former underground station or an old cellar where you can appreciate art and the “cuisine”. You can find this type of restaurants in San Francisco Bay Area at the “Gourmet Ghetto”.

* Dining in the bed: Who does not like the idea of being served at your bed? If we take a step further and imagine going to luxurious restaurant, totally dressed up for the occasion and once you are there instead of having a dining table you would have a huge bed surrounded by champagne… that is priceless. These restaurants can be found in the most emblematic cities; make sure to visit B.E.D next time you are in Miami.

* Pay what you want: If you have not had this experience yet, you are missing it big time! There are many of these restaurants throughout the world, which gives the opportunity to eat really good food at “low cost”. An example is “Terra Bite” in Washington DC.

* Prison Dining: There are several restaurants in the world with imprisonment themes, to give an example the Russian hockey star Evgeni Malkin opened one back in 2006, the restaurant was designed identical to a prison, a rustic wooden table is the seat and dining table plus the prision guards are dressed with skirts which by the way they are the waiters. But if you are looking for an intense experience we will recommend you to visit Pisa, where you can dine in a real prison called “Volterra”, you will enjoy a delicatessen meal and the sensation to be imprisoned thanks for the security processes to enter to the prison and to the waiters because they are real prisoners.

* Hospital Restaurant: You are probably trying to guess where is it right? Let me tell you that there are few of them, but the most emblematic one is in Taipei, it is called “D.S. Music Restaurant”, there you can ask for your “medicines” (drinks) served chilled in a glass tube through plastic pipes hanging in the ceiling just like in an emergency room, the waiters are provocative nurses serving your “prescription” (dinner). This concept is being seen with good feedback so they are planning to open several new restaurants throughout the world in the near future.

* Bid for your food: There are few restaurants with this type of concept, you can find one in Malaga, Spain called “El Tintero” where the menu does not exist, but instead an auction starts among the guests. If you are not screaming your best bid you might have the risk of staying with the less wanted dish.

* Ice Restaurant: As we all know there are ice hotels in some countries in the world, but perhaps you do not know that there is one icy restaurant in the middle of a desert? This restaurant is called “Chill-out” and is located in Dubai, the tables and chairs are made of ice and it is surrounded with icy and artistic sculptures.

As you have read there are many types of unique dining experiences around the world, which allows that the usual dining can convert to a much more enjoyable dinner and be totally unusual. Now tell us, what unusual experiences have you had? Or do feel like doing some time in prison for dinner?
